WEB PROMOTION.

In one sense, promoting your web presence online is a lot like it used to be (find some good keywords for Google and then optimize your site for them, so that Google likes you). But, in other ways (what helps Google to "like" you, local search options, social media, blogs, link building, paying your way to the top...) things have changed a lot in the last few years. Allow me to help you wade through everything. There's no end to the different strategies you could undertake to promote your web site. I can help you prioritize and get the most bang for your buck.

Most people have the wrong idea about keywords.

The best keywords are probably keywords you have never thought of before. If you make jewelry out of Montana's yogo sapphires, you may think "yogo sapphire jewelry" is a good keyword. If you do a search for this keyword, you find that 4,130 web sites come up in Google (which really isn't that many), but what you don't realize is that virtually nobody is searching for "yogo sapphire jewelry" so that keyword is a wasted effort. What you want is a keyword that lots of people are looking for, but few other web sites are competing for. And finding those keywords sometimes takes some digging. It also means that creating the most polished, search-engine friendly site possible demands that you know what keywords you're optimizing for and then you build your site around them. The key (pardon the expression) is to give your customers what they're looking for, and do it better than your competition. It is possible.

Don't underestimate social media.

In today's online world, people interact with each other in lots of ways. You want to sell widgets? You do that not by appealing to strangers alone, but by building up your clientele who trusts you and feels some investment with your business. Social media provides a key service in doing that.
